My plans above refer specifically to PDF... I've only just begun looking at EPUB, the current standard for ebooks. I've mostly been focusing on how to produce one; I haven't gotten as far as whether fonts are embedded or client-side there. If they're client-side, hurray! I'd really rather leave it up to individual readers.
