I don't know if you're familiar with The Primal Order (http://www.amazon.com/Primal-Order-Peter-Adkison/dp/1880992000) (from Wizards of the Coast pre-MtG). The main reason for using it was because it was way to easy to turn gods into dog foods in AD&D 2. (If anything the problem was worse in AD&D 3.) From what you're saying, it sounds like they've finally got that problem fixed.
Of course, The Primal Order is good for other things too, and I have to wonder what a Primal Order translation to D&D 4 would look like. (I can't find one on the net, but my Google-Fu isn't very good.)
