Yeah, that's the other side of it... people are absolutely up in arms over the fact that the game's set up so you can't sell magic items to magic shops for their production price, and that as written DMs are free to tack on a very modest mark-up of 10-40% ot the production price if players buy a magic item.
Then they look at the fact that they can take a piece of "treasure" that's worth x gold and sell it for that full amount, and they argue that this is inconsistent. Me, I think it's plenty apparent that the value given for jewelry and statues is actually the price you can expect to get for it, but if they want to receive only 20% of that for the sake of "consistency", meh. Let them have it!
