I've seen the "making sausage" metaphor applied to the legislative maneuvers that brought this bill about... i.e., it's so unpalatable a process that if you saw how it came about you wouldn't be able to enjoy the end result. But really, I don't think anything could be less palatable than the mental contortions required to entertain the noisier "anti" positions.
