State of the Me

I fear I slept weird on my leg, or quite possibly that I injured it thrashing around (see dreams, below)... my right knee is all kinds of fucked up today.

Dreams From Last Night

Due to a bedtime delayed for technical reasons and some inattentiveness on my part, I ended up taking my nightly valerian dose twice about an hour apart. Since valerian has always given me weird dreams, I'm going to blame that for the dreamsplosion I had. Let's see what I can remember.

First up, I dreamed that I sunk all the money I have into a last-minute plane ticket to go see Jack tomorrow. This was one of those dreams that follows logically out of what was in one's head immediately before falling asleep, which made it very hard to recognize as a dream even as it became increasingly surreal and unlikely. Due to the last minute nature of the trip, I had little more than a suitcase stuffed full of random dirty clothes... I had my phone but no charger, I didn't have my laptop, and as it was time for me to get through security and then board the plane I had a mounting sense of panic with each essential item I realized I was missing.

The plane itself was oddly shaped, being far wider than it was long. There were 26 seats, which were all numbered except the 13th one (my seat), which was given the letter "M" to disguise the fact that it was 13. The plane was capable of flying loops and rolls... indeed, it seemed incapable of doing anything else.

When I arrived in Hagerstown, Jack was unprepared for my arrival and disappointed that I wasn't better prepared.

Then I had an extended dream about going to see (an incredibly aged and decrepit but alive) Woody Guthrie in concert in New York City. The concert was being held in the middle of an intersection, with stadium seating set up in all directions of the two cross streets and people watching from the nearby buildings. Basically the whole city was shut down for this. Mr. Guthrie's voice and memory were both badly degraded and he could barely remember any of the words, much less sing them clearly. At the end of the concert he tried to lead a singalong of "This Land Is Your Land", but it devolved into a riot as people argued over the lyrics and their meaning.

Up next was a sort of mash-up of Robin Hood, Norse myth, and the Bat-family comic book characters. It's hard to explain, except to say that all the Bats were armed with crossbows and longbows and were ambushing giants in the woods. I was one of several Robins in the band, and while I was training the newer ones in climbing a wall I felt a bug crawling on my back and ended up writhing in surprise and falling.

And then I either woke up with the sensation of bugs crawling all over me, or I dreamed I did. That was freaky. Either way, pretty sure that's when I fucked up my knee. I did wake up after that, and turn on the lights long enough to verify that there were no bugs... my skin just felt really sensitive.

And I know I had a succession of dreams after that, but I can't remember them.
