THE DAILY REPORT

Productivity

Okay, so I got pretty flail-ly about the update for the 24th, which failed to improve the underlying situation any. This is strange, of course, because flailing about wildly usually makes things so much better.

Now that it's passed, I feel a lot more sanguine about it. I don't think there's a problem with my schedule... this was just the perfect storm of not having the time and space to make it work. I lasted from October 8th to November 20th under those circumstances without a single missed update, and that includes two updates that happened on days where I was traveling. The schedule survived six weeks of a highly irregular life and broke during week seven. I'm choosing to view this as a success, overall.

That doesn't mean I'm declaring the task of improving my work processes to be over. I have some upgrades to my work routine planned for next month to help eliminate even more of the bottlenecks in my monthly schedule, get rid of the end-of-the-month crunch entirely, and give myself more flexibility about missing days of work without missing days of publication.

Of course, I am in the end of month crunch right now, so what I'm going to be doing for the next three days in terms of routine building is going to be more along the lines of re-centering myself... getting my relaxation, meditation, and breathing exercises back as part of my day, reclaiming the space I need to engage my creative brain.

I'm going to be writing my fingers off, too, but the level of work I need to do in the next few days isn't something sustainable. That's why my goal here is to do my sustainable centering stuff anyway, because it would be so easy to skip it and start the month with absolutely no foundation to build on.

Fantasy In Miniature

Just as a sidenote, right after I blogged about how nice it is that posts on the Tumblr were getting up to a couple dozen hits, one of them ("Eve Explains") absolutely exploded and got twice as many.

It's hard for me to guess which ones will blow up like that and which ones will stay in the single digits. I didn't expect "Frozen Over" to resonate with more people than "The Sweat Of Their Brows", for instance.

Part of it is pure luck... if the right person sees and reblogs something to put it in front of more of the right people, that's all it takes.

Oh, and as I was writing this, I just got a note on the story I posted yesterday: "How is this so consistently good?" That makes me feel very good, because the reason I waited until near the end of the month to post that one was that I thought it was one of the weaker pieces.

Other Stuff

I discovered last night that my amazing headphones of amazingness suffered some damage in transit back from Maryland. Possibly within the realm of my ability to repair. If not, I will have money in the budget for replacements a week or so into December. Either way, stay tuned for more voice posts coming up in December.

STATE OF THE ME

Sleeping well, feeling good.

Jack has known me in person since late in 2009, and each time I visit him he's remarked on the fact that I seem to be getting physically stronger. I've kind of shrugged it off, but the other day I noticed my arms and legs have more muscle definition than I'm used to seeing. I'm not talking about getting ripped or bulky or anything... just a bit firmer. Since I've been way more sedentary in the past few years than I was in my early twenties, this surprised me... but the summer of 2009 is around when I started my current dietary supplement regimen. So I guess that's a sign that it's doing some good.

I don't care about muscle definition. Increased physical strength in and of itself wasn't one of my goals. It's actually things like a particular muscle in my chest that I was most concerned about. But it's nice to see some sign that stuff is going on.

DREAMS FROM LAST NIGHT

Ra's Al Ghul deployed an army of cloned child warriors to try to take over Gotham City. They were led by a fat man who threw CDs or DVDs like shuriken, and assisted by the giant worm monsters from Terraria.

PLANS FOR TODAY

I'm going to start writing Chapter 48 again from scratch. This isn't to say that I won't use any of the material I've previously written for it... but I'm going to start with the idea that I'm not, and then if any of it fits in, I'll put it in. The next newsletter's going to include a look at how this chapter and the immediately previous one evolved from my first attempts to write them.
