THE DAILY REPORT

Yesterday was kind of crazy, but a good kind of crazy. It involved me going out to Dave & Buster's for my housemate's birthday party. One of the other attendees was a small business owner who happened to have a stockpile of D&B cards left over from an under-attended employee holiday party that he'd never found another use for, so we all got 164 free video game credits.

Now, my housemate has an extremely specific mutant super power that lets her get 500+ tickets with every pull of this giant vaguely bass-fishing-themed wheel of fortune game that Dave & Buster's has. So to actually keep a long story short, she came home with a bag full of 9" superhero plush dolls and a plan to make a photo comic using them. I'll keep you posted if anything comes of that.

In other news: that blog I blogged ablog the other blog... er, that blog I blogged about the other day, Unfuck Your Habitat... I'm de-tentativing my tentative recommendation about it. A lot of times, resources that use the no-holds-barred take-no-prisoner approach to motivation rely on a lot of privileged assumptions about what people are capable, but the UFYH blogger appears to be unusually sensitive about such things, as seen here and here.

It's gratifying to see that, because it's such a useful blog/community. It's not that hard to find tips for a more productive life... one of my brothers is really into things like that, for instance... but you often have to be in the right headspace/lifespace to be receptive to them, or they can just make you feel worse. UFYH's tagline is "Terrifying motivation for lazy people with messy homes", but honestly, if you have the sort of mentality where tackling the clutter in your life seems like a monumental undertaking in the first place, UFYH is far less terrifying than the alternative.

I'll be blogging more about "unfucking" my work schedule/habits in the coming weeks.

STATE OF THE ME

Was out late last night, slept in late today. But slept well.

DREAMS FROM LAST NIGHT

Seriously disturbing. I was playing Terraria with Jack, and a new patch was released that added a bunch of seriously Clive Barker type enemies including an inside out zombie called "The Mirror Dead", a whole lair of the underworld that was made out of living flesh, and disturbing voice clips.

Also, we played a doodling game where we were supposed to close our eyes and draw something the other suggested. Jack suggested I draw a fairy, and I ended up drawing a really disturbing undead fairy thing that was rendered in way more detail than I can manage with my eyes open, and was drawn in red and black ink, even though I only had a black pen.

PLANS FOR TODAY

With how late I slept, I really wasn't at all confident about being able to finish a chapter of Tales of MU I'd feel good about posting. But I used the 20/10 time split suggested by UYFH (20 minutes writing, 10 minutes Tumblring or whatevering) and got it done in two hours. This is what I'm going to be blogging about in the coming days, how and why this works for me... I'm not always going to use that same time split, but it works really well when I'm feeling scattered and having a hard time focusing.

Having a timer is essential, of course. Otherwise 10 minutes becomes an hour way too easily.
