Apr. 3rd, 2012 12:36 pmTHE DAILY REPORT
Last night was the
s00j concert and it was phenomenal in every way. The music was of course incredible. I got to hear several new songs, including a collaboration with [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] on the subject of seduction by selkie.
Due to incomplete directions, we very nearly didn't find the venue, but happily we were in the right neighborhood when we saw the songstress herself driving to it.
Live music that speaks to me is one of the closest things I come to a truly spiritual experience, and I don't experience it nearly often enough. The last time, in fact, was when s00j played at WisCon. Being taken to church by s00j made me also realize that I haven't been using music as part of my mental/emotional toolset very much lately... I've been doing things like listening to long, consciously relaxing tracks and then putting on a specific song that won't distract me and will help focus my writing to listen to while writing. Even though I've compiled playlists specifically to help me manage my moods and keep my focus, I haven't been using them... much less just putting on a song or album because I want to hear it.
STATE OF THE ME
The past two days' activity and the fact that we got back to Omaha at 1 in the morning last night, notwithstanding, I've managed to keep a pretty decent sleep schedule. Feeling pretty good overall.
DREAMS FROM LAST NIGHT
There was an episode of Marble Hornets being reblogged on Tumblr and after seeing so many posts with it embedded I decided to watch it. Now, I've never actually watched Marble Hornets, and what my subconscious came up with was a scene with two characters who seemed to be named Ben and Jen who had hopped onto a freight train car in a previous episode. They were being menaced by a shadowy unseen murderous monster and (separately) a man who wore a trollface mask, and the focus of the episode was a conversation about which one was worse. Ben seemed pretty sure that the silver lining of the jerk in the mask was that he helped put the monster in perspective, but Jen thought the fact that he was bothering people who have to deal with monsters just made him more of an asshole.
Also, instead of being shot in an actual boxcar, they were just pacing back and forth in front of a green screen onto which an image of an open box car side 16 bit jungle graphics had been edited. There was one part where for some reason they decided to swing out on a rope and then back into the car, and it was accomplished through the medium of terrible animation.
I wondered what anybody saw in this show.
PLANS FOR TODAY
Got a chapter of Tales of MU to finish and post.
