The Daily Report

I have a fairly big announcement to make later today. There's not much to report until then.

This week, I'm doing a push to get more monthly subscribers to Tales of MU. It's basically a form of patronage, like sponsoring your local PBS or NPR station... it sets up a recurring monthly donation. I've set it up so you can name the price you're comfortable with, starting at $1 a month and going up.

This is something I didn't really push at all last year, because I felt conflicted over my performance. But now that my work's getting back on track, it's time to get the funding back on track, too. Apart from supporting me in writing the ongoing story, the subscriptions entitle you to my mostly monthly newsletter, plus access to the newsletter backlog and and an archive of review copies of all my short stories for sale. I'm planning including longer content in the archive soon, too.

The State of the Me

Hand a random muscle cramp last night at shortly before when I would have been going to bed, and it kept me up into the wee hours before it was under control. But on a positive note, I did sleep without pills, and I got a good amount of sleep.

Plans For Today

Today I have to write a Tales of MU chapter for Tuesday... next Tuesday. Yes, we've reached the point where I'm a week ahead. I'm also going to be writing and posting The One Called Wander, with the goal of updating it at least every weekday this week.

I mentioned an upcoming announcement in my status post for today. Here it is.

This weekend, I uploaded the manuscript for the first Tales of MU e-book to the Amazon Kindle store. This collects the first 22 chapters of the serial, with some miscellaneous clean-up and the addition of author commentary for each chapter. The commentary is at the end of the book so first time readers don't get bogged down with it, with hyperlinks to jump back and forth for people who want to view it as they go.

The process of doing this took me a lot longer than I expected, more because of things that seemed like insurmountable obstacles at the time than because of any real difficulty. Part of the end result of this is that I have literally no idea how long it actually took me to do this, or how long I should expect the next one to take. And I'm still going to be traveling back and forth for most of the rest of the year. My Office 2013 set-up should make that easier for me, and of course the second one should be easier than the first one, but basically, I can't make a firm commitment to bring these out on a regular basis until I'm settled in Maryland.
