As of today, Nook Press is still verifying my vendor account. I know it's something that will only need to be done once and then I should be good to go for any number of projects, so I'm trying not to let this delay damp my enthusiasm for their platform.
The initial burst of easy sales for the Tales of MU kindle book seems to be subsiding somewhat, which is to be expected. My feelings are kind of all over the place. I've never sold nearly as many of a single item in a month on Kindle as I have of it in the past four days, which is great. I've never made as much money in a single month on Kindle as I have in the past four days, which is great. It's like sixty bucks. But then I think, "All that work for sixty bucks?" And then I think about waiting two and a half months before I actually see the money.
But while I can't control my feelings, intellectually I know that this is about the long haul. That sixty bucks isn't a lifetime earning cap, it's just a good beginning. When I say sales have been subsiding, I don't mean they've stopped, and I always knew that I'd have to get out and push. I'm waiting until I have the Nook option available before I do that, so I'm not duplicating efforts, although if it takes much longer I'll go ahead and start anyway.
Also, once the Nook version is available, I'm going to set up a direct selling option for people who don't have Kindle or Nook, or who don't want to give money to Amazon or Barnes & Noble for whatever reasons.
The State of the Me
Remember when I said that the temperatures were getting into the too hot for sleeping category? Yesterday it snowed all day. I slept very well last night.
Last year, I quit caffeine entirely after switching my drinking habit from soda to Mio-style flavored water, which has the advantages of being cheaper and producing far less trash, apart from resulting in better hydration. Caffeine can be healthy in moderation, but I'm not naturally a very moderate person.
Yesterday, though, I began what I hope will become a daily habit of beginning the day with a cup of green tea. Tea has the advantage over soda that it takes preparation and isn't something I can just keep up in my room, where I do most of my work and also incidentally sleep. My theory is that this will help me get going in the morning and give me access to the neurological benefits of caffeine without spiraling up out of control.
Plans For Today
Today's a writing day. I'm also this morning going to finish collecting the chapters for the next Tales of MU ebook, a task I started two days ago and that literally took me months for the previous one. Figuring out how to use Word's "merge formatting" paste option... and figuring out how to make it the default... has proven to be a godsend there. It's not that there were months worth of work before, it's that it was tedious and frustrating before. I'm also jotting down thoughts that occur to me as I glance through the chapter in the process of copying and pasting it, for the commentary. I already wrote the commentary for the first few chapters that I compiled the other day, and I think I'm better at it than I was for the first book. They're a bit longer and a bit more personal. Practice makes perfect.
