Well, I'm actually writing this from my new place.
At this point, it's fair to say that I underestimated the difficulty of nearly everything involved with the move... but it happened anyway. I'm here. It's not *quite* done. We rolled into town as it was getting dark, and as we oculdn't get the U-Haul very close to the house we only got it about halfway unloaded before we had to break for reasons relating to visibility.
I've mentioned that the rest of the house isn't ready for occupancy because the previous occupants (and owners of it), Jack's in-laws, haven't finished moving out... I really did not grasp the magnitude of that problem from his description of it. When he said that the other rooms still have stuff in them, I'd assumed he meant that each room had... some stuff. The reality is much more... clutteriffic than that. I've been told there will be people in the house during the day cleaning and stuff, but since the rest of the house outside my rooms isn't actually usable for anything that's not going to impact my days that much.
It's not quite as ideal a situation as I'd envisioned at the outset, but it's a temporary one. Jack and Sarah are now on a firm timetable of their own, having given notice to their apartment complex that they'll be vacating at the end of November, so the mess will have to be resolved fairly soon.
My rooms are awesome, though, and better than expected. I have two of them: a large front room and a smaller back one. As of right now, myself, my friend who drove me, and my cat are camped out in the front one, which I've begun to set up. We've been moving my boxes and containers of things into the back one. Eventually the front room is going to be my office and the back room is going to be bedroom, but for this week it's going to be more like the front room is living space and the back room is storage space.
The State of the Me
I've spent every night since Thursday sleeping in a different place and also fairly keyed up, so as you can imagine I'm a little behind on sleep. I've also been under a lot more physical stress and exertion than is typical... I'm *really* glad I started exercising daily during my stays with my parents during the late summer heatwaves. My endurance is better than it's been in my adult life.
Plans For Today
As mentioned above, we'll still be carrying things in today. During the time that we're not, I'll be settling in, getting things set up, and playing hostess to my friend Angie, who flies back to Omaha tomorrow afternoon. Because of this, I'm not actually back online or back to work just yet.
On that note, I've been told that the internet is still turned on in this house, but I'm not sure that there's a cable modem and I'm certain there isn't a router. I'll have to look into this, but for now I'm using my phone for my wifi.
