The Daily Report
We ended up hiring some extra help yesterday to get the U-Haul completely unpacked and everything from it into my back room pretty quickly. There's about as much floor space in my two rooms as I had in the attic, but since the ceiling isn't pitched, there's a lot more usable space. I also have two closets and more furniture to actually put things away in.
There are no words for how happy and affectionate my cat was, waking up the second day in a row in the same place after having been given back most of the stuff that was taken away from him during packing. He hasn't been very happy during the trip... he adjusted pretty quickly to the reality of hours in a carrier in a noisy truck followed by staying at an unfamiliar place, but that didn't mean he liked it.
Today we're taking my friend to the airport so she can get back to Omaha, and then I'll begin the work of putting my new life in order. In my adult life, I've only ever had a few months that weren't spent living somewhere that was packed too full of stuff (sometimes other people's, but more recently my own) and I'm looking forward to having a place for everything and beginning with everything in its place.
As important as getting my physical stuff into place is going to be getting reliable internet here. I'm still doing the phone thing, and last night I could connect to my phone's hot spot and I could browse the internet using the phone, but I couldn't get the internet on my computer through the phone's hot spot.
The State of the Me
I've had several days of heavy exertion and short sleep
Plans For Today
Right now, there's a queen-sized air mattress occupying a lot of real estate in my front room, but once that's been put away I'm going to be moving my desk in (which will incidentally free up some floor space in the otherwise packed-with-boxes back room), unpacking and setting up my computer stuff, moving some bookcases into position, and unpacking some books.
Tonight's really going to be the first night of our new living arrangements, and it'll be interesting. I'm not really sure how it's going to work, being in a household that's divided across town rather than across the country.
