The Daily Report

I've been in a bit of a fog this week, a combination of emotional stuff and poor sleep brought about by the emotional stuff. This isn't my usual insomnia... I had that last week. Insomnia isn't what happens when stuff keeps you up all hours. Insomnia is itself a thing that keeps you up all hours.

Anyway, yesterday things turned around in the afternoon when I was able to just start writing. I was able to get a decent start on the next MU chapter around 4:30, which is enough time that it's possible to get a decent chapter done by end of business day, though the results are always more likely to be "acceptable" than "good" under those circumstances. Around 5:30, I made the call that I wasn't going to be able to get it there.

So I decided to take the time to get properly back on track. Instead just holding the chapter back a day, I tweeted that it would be up on Friday. That gives me today to build on what I did yesterday and tomorrow to polish. Next week's chapter will go up on Thursday. And then the week after that, we'll be back on track for Wednesday updates.

Unrelated to special circumstances of this week, over the past several weeks I've come to realize that Monday is the most precarious day of my work week, because it's when I have to make the transition from weekends to work days. If I don't put in the effort to make a mental shift, then it takes me until halfway through the week to complete it. If I hit the ground running on Monday, then I can coast. If I don't, I spend three or four days trying to build up that speed. I think starting next week I'm going to be working on a special routine for getting into the groove Monday morning.

The State of the Me

Honestly pretty okay.

Plans For Today

Block 1, Gift of the Bad Guy. I'm re-doing the original ebook... it was the first ebook I made, and I've learned a lot since then. In particular, I've learned that there are a lot simpler ways of doing things than what I did. Doing it the long way left a lot of weird artifacts in the formatting. This is also a good way to get solidly reacquainted with the story and its world. I've got a lot of fragmentary drafts of the next book, but I don't want to start pulling it together until I'm farther.

Block 2... I mentioned earlier in the week about experimenting with interactive fiction (specifically, using the Twine program). I don't think I quite have the organizational chops for doing anything major there yet, but the storyline I was working on is something I'm interested in pursuing as a linear text project. I'm going to be writing some of it.

Block 3, Tales of MU.
