May. 7th, 2014 09:34 amThe Daily Report
Today's the last day that I'll be doing the back-and-forth thing on the FPS employee blog, as Harper and Eva will find a solution to their communication problem today.
On the subject of communication and that blog: I've had people ask about commenting on the site. I initially planned on allowing comments, but I wanted to require sign-in (because I don't have the resources to screen yet another wordpress blog for spam). When I tried to enable account registration, the site failed to generate the confirmation emails.
Upon reflection, I don't think commentary is a good idea. It would be kind of a blatantly fourth wall breaking thing, because the comments could not actually communicate with Harper,or else the whole premise would quickly devolve into the equivalent of the audience yelling "GODDAMMIT MR. NOODLE!"... so we'd have a situation where the comments and the story would have to be separate, but presented together. I wrote an excuse for this in to the first episode (there's a mention that nothing having to do with the comments will make it past the firewall), but on reflection I'm not sure this will add that much to the proceedings.
I'm still not fully committed/resigned to this one way or the other, but right now, I don't think comments would be a good thing. It would create the illusion of interaction when the story's premise really depends on there being none.
On another note, it's two weeks until WisCon and I'm still trying to get a comfortable margin in my account to cover the hotel and miscellaneous expenses. Any help would be appreciated. After this, I should have a pretty long, smooth ride with nothing major to pay for. My writing income has been picking back up, just not quickly enough as I expected it to back when I made the decision to go to the con this year.
The State of the Me
This is a textbook good day. I went to bed at a reasonable hour last night and am wide awake and ready to go at ten in the morning. It's going to be a bit of a *weird* day because I'm still updating Harper's Folly piecemeal, and I have some errands to run, but it's a good day.
Plans For Today
Because of aforementioned weirdness, today is 100% devoted to Harper's Folly. If I tried to split it up, I'd end up getting nothing done on several things.
