News For Today
Personal
I've made a slight adjustment to my sleep regimen - I switched my melatonin to a slightly larger dose in a time-release pill. Before, if I was having an insomnia episode I would often stay awake through the melatonin's initial effect and then be wide awake but slightly hung over all night. The past two nights (when I've been using the new pill), I've had sleep delay but still eventually fallen asleep and slept pretty well.
Cultural
I've read several more of the new DC comics #1. My overall outlook on the new universe is very mixed. One take-away is that they badly misjudged things if the intention was to give new readers a better entry point from the ground floor. It's possible that the first set of collected trades will present a better primer, but I'm not sure. My suspicion is that DC might be unaware of how badly they've done in that area... "insiders" to a hobby often seem to make that mistake.
For some reason the newest episode of Doctor Who doesn't seem to have been released on Amazon... was there a change in U.S. airdates? In any event, my flist seems more sharply divided than ever about it.
Business
In work-related news, "To Live Forever..." is now live on Kindle. Newsletter readers will get it for free on Thursday.
State of the Me
Doing pretty well, physically and mentally. No news is good news here.
Dreams From Last Night
I was at some kind of con that was being held in an old elementary school, leading a panel. Afterwards we all went outside to participate in a dance among pine trees that had video monitors lodged in the branches, which were playing "The Phony King of England" from Disney's Robin Hood. This shamelessly anti-authoritarian display attracted the attention of the alien cyborgs who had conquered the earth and we were all sent to a prison that also looked like an old elementary school. The politics of the prison were a lot like Battle School in Ender's Game, except we the inmates were intentionally subverting the experiments instead of going along with them.
Plans For Today
Today is my first day of work at my new job. My new job's going to look an awful lot like my old job from the outside, but it's completely different. Instead of having specific deadlines that revolve around producing a given chapter for a specific day, my new job is based around producing a certain number of chapters/updates every month so that I have them available on the days I want to update.
I suppose it could be looked upon as two different jobs: Writer and Publisher. Right now Writer AE is going to be working closely with Publisher AE, because we're expecting to drop a chapter tomorrow. It's the rest of the week where things will get interesting.
I'm also going to set the outline for a newsletter to go out Thursday.
