News For The Day

The big news (as people who watch my Facebook might have divined) is that I'm back in Hagerstown. I didn't want to talk about the trip publicly in advance because the events of this past summer have left me a little nervous about making my movements too public. This was actually arranged when the last one ended... I had to go back to Omaha for family stuff, but under the circumstances I couldn't have left Jack without a set date for my return.

Knowing that this was coming up was a big part of why I spent September trying to not just get back up to speed on my writing, but streamlining my process so that it could survive the sorts of "atypical" situations that typically come up. I don't think I've ever been successful at keeping up a schedule while I'm here. Obviously it's too soon to declare victory on that score this time, but so far so good. The initial posting of the chapter on the 8th suffered a bit from my habit of taking a Benadryl when boarding an airplane (I have a peanut allergy; even on airlines that don't serve peanuts, it's hard to predict or control what snacks people will bring).

This may be the last time I visit Jack, insofar as I don't expect to have the money to do so soon and things are shaping up so that some time next year I mean to be living here.

In work-related news, the newsletter backlog is now up for subscribers to read. If you get the newsletter, you should have gotten an email with the instructions for how to access them. And yes, this means if you subscribe now, you'll be able to read the previous ones, too.

So far the responses to the big question in the last newsletter... which of my three strongest novella projects to focus on... have been pretty evenly divided among the choices, but the specific feedback I've received is helping me to make up my mind. People seem to be more forthcoming about their reasons for not liking one project or another, which is also really helpful... I like all of them, and intend to bring all three to completion, but getting diverse outside opinions on the early draft can help me find ways to make the stories stronger or clearer. So whichever I choose, I'm going to keep including progress and soliciting feedback in the newsletter.

State of the Me

48 hours after landing in the region, my nose is running and my throat is raw. You know, when I started doing this shuttling back and forth it seemed like I was allergic to the environment in Nebraska and coming here was a respite. Now my allergies seem to have flip-flopped. They're worse here than they are back in Omaha. Or possibly it's something in the apartment here that's setting me off, which would be good news in the long run since we're not going to be living here. In the meantime, I'm going to have to get some of the 24 hour allergy stuff that doesn't make me loopy.

Plans For Today

Today is mostly a writing day. Going to be starting an OT, finding the beginning of the next MU chapter, and working on KDR.
