I think my cat is becoming less co-dependent.
Normally he tries to follow me around the house when I'm home and gets despondent and frightened when I'm gone for long periods of time. Just lately he's been getting bored with staying in the bathroom while I'm taking a bath, and last night he started chilling downstairs on the couch while I was upstairs. I thought he was just hiding somewhere up here, but I went downstairs and there he was, and he showed no inclination of following me back up. He did eventually come upstairs after I went to bed, but this morning he went downstairs and hit the couch immediately after I got up. He's been up and down a few times since.
This is literally something that's never happened before. I take it as a promising sign. I love him dearly, but it's not always convenient to have him hovering.
