Some notes.

I've had some more fun with my apartment complex... nothing major, but annoying and distracting and pretty much the reason I've chosen to work nights this week after working so hard to get my sleep schedule on track. The thing is I know how to do it now, so I can do it again. :P I'm having a pretty productive night, all things considered. It's quite a bit cooler, among other things.

My email... I've fixed the client-side problem, but now I'm finding out there may be something wonky on the server side. Simply put I don't think I'm getting everything that's being sent to me. I have some specific examples of emails friends sent, and test emails. It was just pointed out to me that my email host also offers the option of sourcing it through Gmail, which I think I'm going to do. Not getting email notices for the sponsor lists makes it hard to keep them updated.

[livejournal.com profile] s00j has released another track for the online Palimpsest album: "Girl With The Lion's Tale". It's the song I first heard a few weeks back when she passed through Omaha. It's quite a good listen.

This was brought to my attention:

It has nothing to do with anything but is hilarious.

I've got a feeling I'm forgetting some stuff, but I'm on a weird sleep schedule. :P I'll post more later after I've rested. Anyway, got to go write Void Dogs.

Any email address that's got my domain on the end of it forwards to my gmail account, seriously any address. I was amusing myself once by giving people out addresses with silly usernames. My friend didn't believe the emails would all come to me, though! They did of course. And... er. I think I need to go to bed before my eyes fall out and I start posting even randomer comments.

I used to do something similar with my domains, too, but I found it -reeeally- increased the amount of spam I got since a lot of automated mailers will try random combinations or just make up all the obvious ones: admin@, mailbox@, sysop@, etc.

I suppose Google might have a better spam filter than anything that was available around the turn of the century, though.

Google's spam smoter is awesome. I say this because I get maybe... 3 spam mails that go through to my actual inbox in a month (my spam folder seems to average out at about 1200 spams a month...)

Unrelated question: have you reached your donation goals? I am curious. I see a whole lot of sponsors. Is it up to your $1,500 monthly goal?

[identity profile] alexandraerin.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, no, I haven't... just having a more predictable income has been helpful but I really do need to earn more sponsors if I'm going to be able to keep going.

[identity profile] chahuahuas.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
okay. it would be nice to have a tally once in a while, just to know that you still need donations. if you're posting updates every once in a while, it's more incentive for me to possibly up my donation.

also... maybe you could post a blog with instructions on how to raise my monthly donation? i started out with a small amount, and i feel like i might be interested in raising it. i don't know how though, and i don't feel like i know if it's necessary, either.

[identity profile] alexandraerin.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah... here we come back to my being self-conscious about it. Saying "Oh, by the way, if you want to raise your donation level..." unsolicited feels like I'm telling everybody who's already giving me money that they personally need to give more.

Silly, I know. But knowing somebody's asked makes me feel better about it, so thanks. I'll make my blog post tomorrow include that information, but just so you know for now: creating a new sponsorship does not remove the old one, which means you can either make a separate new one (some people are sponsoring two stories, for instance) or you can cancel the old one and then buy a higher level of sponsorship. I'll include step-by-step instructions on how to cancel the old one in my blog post tomorrow... I know vaguely where it is inside the Paypal account, but it's been a while.

Maybe you feel self conscious about asking, but I feel left out in the dark when I donate and I can't see the progress it is making. Don't think of it as asking, it's just giving us updates on our investments. Really, it is! People want to know exactly where there money is going, even if its just a little bit every month.

[identity profile] aniraangel.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
AE, perhaps you could start out with saying something like "a reader/few of my readers have asked how to..' etc? It's not unsolicited information after all.

[identity profile] alexandraerin.livejournal.com 2009-06-04 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah, that's why I like it when people ask. :P

*g*

Anything else you want us to ask you so you can post about it, then? ;)
