(Psst. I have a secret.)

It's up on the latest post in [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets. Those who know me can probably guess which one, but I'll just say straight up: it's number 164. Catherine Tate Eff Tee Double You.

Here's a copy of the secret for the connection impaired:

Obviously it's not much of a secret if I'm admitting to posting it, and truthfully, I don't need another person's example to teach me that it's okay to eat. The fact is, I don't even know Ms. Tate's eating habits. She could have a glass of water and a cracker (or "lorry", as Ariella tells me they call them over there) every day for all I know. Those of us who live in reality instead of Weight Loss Industry Sponsored Land™ know that you can't tell somebody's dietary habits from looking at their body.

So what's the point? I'm trying to plant a seed. Almost every post on [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets includes at least one picture of a stylistically thin stick figure of a cartoon character with the message "She is my thinspiration." So, I post a picture of a real, live woman... a tremendously talented woman who has what is probably among the best, most coveted roles in genre television... to show these folk that having a life need not depend on mutilating oneself in pursuit of an unattainable ideal.

This was my first such secret to get posted. I submitted a deliberately cracky one a while back, but it never went up. Whether this was because it was judged to be trollish or because I didn't do it right, I'm not at all sure. I wasn't sure I'd done this one right, and so it may show up as a duplicate in another post.

(Kate Harding here.) Love it! I only wish there were an unclunky way to say "She's my rock-your-body-as-is-even-if-you-work-in-an-industry-that-demands-ridiculous-thinness-spiration," because of what you acknowledge about not knowing Tate's eating habits. But yours is much catchier, and I think it's awesome that you threw that in there to counter the thinspiration.

Also, what is this "paid work" crap? Need more T.H.I.N.!

A commentator on the secrets post called her "winspiration".
