The great Impostro, being hoisted aloft by Carrog, has just denounced you all for the "death" of Jared, the little boy with the cockatrice bite. As the crowd gets uglier, a tall man wearing a faded red sash steps pushes his way to the front. "Everybody, let's calm down... you too, big man," he says to Carrog.

[8/5/2010 9:08:14 PM] Carrog: Carrog looks ready to ignore the suggestion and just put an end to the magician, but he drops him on his feet and raises to his full height, just staring down at him.
[8/5/2010 9:08:25 PM] Harlan: "Monsieur, if I may so boldly ask, who are you?"
[8/5/2010 9:08:55 PM] Alexandra Erin: "I'm Magistrate Wallace," he says. "The lord's man in these parts."

[8/5/2010 9:09:10 PM] Spectre: "I presume you are in charge here. This gentleman here was unsafely harbouring a cockatrice within the fair ground. You can see the results," Spectre gestures to the petrified boy.
[8/5/2010 9:10:07 PM] Alexandra Erin: The magistrate looks at Spectre, cocking his head to the side as he takes him in. "This... this was part of a magic show?"
[8/5/2010 9:10:21 PM] Spectre: "Unfortunately, yes."
[8/5/2010 9:11:08 PM] Spectre: "Additionally, there is a beast called a dimensional marauder in the vicinity. It is extremely dangerous. We are in pursuit of it."
[8/5/2010 9:11:10 PM] Optima Brand: "Not a real good one, too," says Ms. Brand. "I prefer card tricks."

[8/5/2010 9:11:49 PM] Alexandra Erin: Wallace sighs and shakes his head. "Every year the Festival of Renewal gets bigger and we get more and more outrageous outlanders... I think the lot of you need to come with me. We'll get to the bottom of this, one way or another."

[8/5/2010 9:18:56 PM] Alexandra Erin: Someone in the crowd cries out, "Why can't they pay now? It's a festival, isn't it?"
[8/5/2010 9:19:11 PM] Spectre: "The boy is not actually dead, but petrified. If the body of the cockatrice is found, he can be restored."

[8/5/2010 9:19:28 PM] Lady Scarlet: "We're going to get to see a small community's law up close and personal. I can already feels the flames dancing at my feet." Scarlet mumbles to herself.

[8/5/2010 9:20:28 PM] Alexandra Erin: "The eaten cockatrice is dangerous?" Wallace says.
[8/5/2010 9:20:41 PM] Optima Brand: "Don't worry about the crowd, they're just untrained rabble. No threat to us."

[8/5/2010 9:22:12 PM] Alexandra Erin: Impostro snakes around past all of you to get closer to the magistrate. "My honorable master," he says, "I can undo the harm these fools have wrought, if I could retrieve my wand from them and be given freedom to work my magic in peace."
[8/5/2010 9:22:52 PM] Alexandra Erin: "Oh?" Wallace says, looking down at Harlan and ignoring the magician tugging his sleeve.
[8/5/2010 9:22:53 PM] Dunbar: "You are confusing words, Wallace. This marauder is not a bandit, a man, or anything else you're capable of dealing with. It is a beast, an unseen hunter. Right now, the cockatrice we need is sitting in the belly of this beast."
[8/5/2010 9:23:42 PM] Optima Brand: "It's big, and purple, with jaws that go like THIS." She waves her hands in front of her in a chomping motion. "RAAR."
[8/5/2010 9:23:45 PM] Alexandra Erin: "Do not listen to them, I pray," Impostro says. "They have done enough harm already. Listen to them, they want to recover the cockatrice, they say so themselves. To do what? Return my wand to me and I can fix this."
[8/5/2010 9:24:06 PM] Alexandra Erin: "Enough!" Wallace says. "You... does one of you have a wand belonging to this man?"
[8/5/2010 9:24:41 PM] Spectre: "Magistrate Wallace, the conjurer lies. The wand is dangerous, and he cannot use it to cure the boy."
[8/5/2010 9:24:43 PM] Carrog: Throughout this, Carrog's standing there, arms crossed, looking quite serious. Calm- but serious. He's not saying a word, nor betraying any emotion.
[8/5/2010 9:25:49 PM] Alexandra Erin: "If the wand factored in the harming of the boy, I don't see why it can't cure him," Wallace says. "And if it was taken from him, that's theft... now you both say you can cure the boy and you both blame the others, so let's put this to the test. You produce this man's wand and return it to him. Then you be on about your own attempt."

If this is the case, then the cockatrice could have been "summoned" out of its world and into this one. and in fact the inn could be a plce where those multiverses touch"

Up here, you can't help but notice the drake-like tracks of the marauder left hither and thither, sometimes more distinctly than others. The trail is never unbroken for long, though.
