The Daily Report

As of this moment, I have six finished FIMs for next month. We're at the 18th of the month, which means right now I'm averaging one every three days. The actual calculus is more complicated than that, though, because I have others in various stages of conception/completion so I could have a bunch that come together in the second half of the month.

Writing them in advance instead of for immediate publication requires a mental adjustment... often in the past if an idea didn't immediately come together or if I started writing a flash story that I couldn't bring to an end, I didn't make any effort to hang onto it or to come back to it. It's not that I deleted anything or tossed anything on the reject pile, it's just that things that weren't of immediate use didn't stay on my radar.

I discovered yesterday that the default Formspring widget is too wide for the main sidebar on Tales of MU. I have a few other ideas. I'll keep you posted.

State of the Me

My calves are a little bit sore. I actually noticed this last night. It's probably due to a lot of walking up and down hills and on uneven ground that I did over the weekend. Slept well last night. Respiratory stuff continues to improve.

Dreams From Last Night

Involved a photographer who could take pictures of the demons inside of people, though they all looked like someone had taken a photograph and some markers and drawn a kind of stereotypical devil/gargoyle thing over the person.

Plans For Today

I woke up feeling all kinds of creative today, so it's going to be a day of mixed writing.

Well, after having it happen three times in a row, I've discovered a proximate cause for my netbook's newly formed habit of freezing up completely while I'm using it. It happens when my hand jiggles the USB connector on my headphones, a not-uncommon occurrence due to the placement of the USB port on the right side of the computer. I've moved the headphones over to a USB port on the left side of the keyboard.

Don't know what's going on with the computer/that USB port that it gets that finicky. When I say it freezes up, I mean it becomes completely unresponsive... mouse pointer locks in place, computer responds to no input whatsoever short of a forced shutdown (holding the power button in). But hopefully this will improve its usability... I couldn't swear in hindsight that I knocked the USB cord every time it's locked up in the past ten days, but it's not hard to reproduce the behavior.

My Brain: These two shakes look an awful lot alike. I know the server said this one was jamocha and the other was chocolate, but what if someone else filled them and she was just guessing? I should have ordered Jack a vanilla. All he said was "anything but jamocha" so there was no reason it had to be chocolate... literally the only thing he requested was that he not get a jamocha shake and I've basically given him a 50/50 chance of exactly that I AM THE WORST GIRLFRIEND EVER... although rationally I guess the worst case scenario is that he gets a sip of jamocha and then we trade.

In fact, I can just taste mine first and find out for sure.

Okay... okay... hmmm, I'm pretty sure that's jamocha.

Yeah, pretty sure.

But of course it's kind of chocolaty, too. In fact, it's kind of really chocolaty. I know that jamocha has a chocolate base, but... honestly, I can't remember if I've ever had a plain chocolate milkshake from Arby's. What if this is just what they taste like?

That's silly... there is definitely something coffee-like in here. Unless I'm just confused because I was expecting jamocha? Maybe this is just what chocolate tastes like.

I guess I'll know for sure when Jack tries his... he's not even putting his straw in. He must be waiting until we get home. Why, Jack, why? I could be drinking your milkshake right now and we'd never know. I should stop drinking. No, that would be weird. He'd wonder what's wrong. Maybe I could ask him to taste his. No, that would be even weirder. Oh, I could ask if I can try some of his! ...that would probably be weirder still, but it would give me a side-by-side comparison IT'S THE ONLY WAY TO BE SURE.

Jack: You're quiet, pet.

Me: I'm drinking my milkshake.
