The Daily Report

One of the biggest problems with my nomadic lifestyle is that picking up and moving each time doesn't just disrupt my routine, it disrupts the tools I use to keep a routine. I cleared out my HabitRPG task list just before WisCon because parts of it had become obsolete and a lot of it would need to be adjusted for Maryland... and then I never filled it out again. I've just been limping along without it, "meaning to" fill it out but having other things that feel more important.

Today--a month later--I'm getting it set up again, but I've only got three weeks left in my stay. Likewise, it's taken me this long to get settled back into my pill regimen after WisCon. And this isn't uncommon for me. This actually represents progress over the past three years of doing this. I suppose if I kept doing it indefinitely I'd get even better, but again, the really bright spot is that if everything goes well this fall then this is my last time doing this. We'll have to expect a similar adjustment period after I move, but I think the advantages of the new place will help mitigate that.

I *didn't* finish the newsletter last week, which means I didn't send it out over the weekend. Part of that is my routine troubles, part of it is my constant second-guessing about the value of what I have to say. With the help of my office productivity manager (HabitRPG), I'm confident I will get it out before the end of the month.

We're about 25% of the way through the moving fundraiser, time-wise, and still about 40% of the way there, money-wise. Finishing it up before I leave Maryland would require about $500 a week, which doesn't seem likely, but I'm going to start pushing it in a more consistent way on the TOMU site.

The State of the Me

Doing well.

Plans For Today

Rebuilding my HabitRPG task list, bonus story, doing some boosting for the fundraiser.

Back when I first started using Office 2013, I encountered a lot of problems with using the "Office on-demand" feature which was supposed to stream applications and files to computers that don't have them installed. It seemed like a great idea and the answer to a lot of my traveling work woes, but I just couldn't get it to work. That's part of why I haven't been using the desktop computer here in Maryland for more work stuff.

I don't know if I was just having bad luck or I picked the wrong time to try them, but today on an impulse I tried it again on Jack and Sarah's desktop computer and it worked fine. It does take a while for the application to load, but that's not surprising... and once it's up, it's up.

If I'd thought to try this earlier (and it had worked earlier), I would probably have book 2's commentary done by now.
