The Daily Report

So, I'm closing the month of July out with around $50 in royalties on Amazon and $25 in profits on Sellfy. August should be bigger than that, because I'll be doubling the amount of MU books I'm selling, on top of putting more things on Sellfy, and doing more to make sure that MU readers know there are e-books. The e-mails I got even after I had book 1 up and book 2's conversion well underway have made it clear that a major issue is just awareness.

My initial goal for e-books when I started this year was the rather vague and unambitious "average more than $10 a month", which is about what I was getting before (total takings for 2012 was about $137). Now I'm specifically aiming for $100 a month, and I'm a viewing that as a floor rather than a target average. Ultimately, obviously, I hope the e-book side of my business makes these initial goals seem paltry, but you've got to start somewhere.

The book 2 e-book conversion is going well. The Amazon version should be available this week, with other formats/venues following throughout August (probably fairly quickly). The price will be $4.99... the text of the book alone is bigger than book 1's entire length (text plus commentary), and the commentary section is about 5 times the length of the first book's. I definitely found my voice more this time.

The Omnibus II process is going both better and worse than expected. Chapter compilation has gone faster, but I mis-remembered at what point I stopped breaking the chapters of volume 1 up into individual books... I had thought I had six books fully marked off, but it turns out that 1) it's only five and 2) book 5 doesn't have a definitive ending point. So I'll have to figure out where book 6 begins and ends. A minor detail in the grand scheme of things, but I was thinking I would get two full Omnibuses up before I had to mess with that.

The State of the Me

Doing well. Not a lot to report, really. It's a cool, gray morning, with projected highs in the low to mid 80s all week. I feel like my life revolves around weather reports right now, but that's the reality of my current living situation.

Plans For Today

Today's going to focus on e-book conversions and newsletter writing. The newsletter will either go out tonight or early tomorrow.

...which is funny since Tuesday and Thursday are my "light" days, according to my schedule. But while this means that if I need to chill a bit I can do so, it also gives me space to dig in and get stuff done when I'm raring to go. After a weekend that was downright vegetative, today was definitely a "get stuff done" kind of day.

A lot of what I was doing today isn't stuff that can bear immediate fruit... like, I'm now officially halfway through the second MU Omnibus, and I'm almost ready to publish the second MU e-book, but it needs more work on Thursday. What I can immediately share is the first two of my short stories for direct sale, in two different formats.

I picked my two best-selling titles to convert first. One is my slightly satirical time travel story "Those Who Fail To Learn" (EPUB and MOBI) and the other is my dark anti-heroic modern horror/fantasy "I Do Not Fight Monsters" (EPUB and MOBI)... these stories aren't anything new, they've both been available through Amazon for ages (hence how I know they're best sellers), but for people who can't or won't buy through Amazon, now the option is there.

(Reminder, the mobi format is for Kindle devices/apps... epub is compatible with most other devices/apps, but please check for compatibility before purchasing. Other formats, including plain HTML and PDF will be coming.)
