Jul. 31st, 2013 10:47 amThe Daily Report
Yesterday I mentioned how psychologically appealing the $3,000 barrier was. Evidently someone agreed with me, because I got a donation that was exactly enough to put the fundraiser (now with 10 days left) to $3,000.
Separate from that, I also got a question about whether credit card donations are "worth it". The fact is, there aren't actually extra transaction fees for them, and in fact they're really convenient in that IndieGoGo holds them until the end of the fundraiser to be disbursed as a single lump sum into my bank account, which saves me a bit of bookkeeping.
As I write this I'm queuing up the newsletter for July to go out. It has the last 13 chapters' worth of commentary for book 2, which is getting its internal hyperlinking (last stage of basic formatting) tomorrow and should be up in the store sometime over the weeked.
The State of the Me
Still doing well.
Plans For Today
Today's a posting day.
I'm also going to be working on an explicit license/statement for my e-books, because the question has been raised about copies/conversions. My feeling is that consumers have an absolute right to make back-up copies of media they own, to copy it onto multiple devices for their convenience, and convert it to whatever format is necessary for them to enjoy it. I offer multiple formats because taking a .epub and converting it to a .mobi won't necessarily net you the best results, but you shouldn't have to buy a thing again if your hardware changes.
This should be the default understanding under the law, but as things stand, it really isn't, so I'm going to take the time to make it explicit before I put more e-stuff up for e-sale.
