The WisCon convention committee released a final decision on James Frenkel late yesterday: the provisional ban is no longer provisional. I started to make a blog post about it and then realized that I don't have that much to say about it, as an outsider with no direct insight into the process used. I'm glad they came to a decision that prioritizes group safety over individual loyalty, and that puts the future of the con above its dusty past. I just hope that the harm done leading up to this point can be healed.
Yesterday was a pretty good day. As part of my looking ahead for the week, I also looked at the next three chapters I have to go up so I could get a better sense of how they fit together. I realized that there's a bit of a leap between chapter+2 and chapter+3 that might merit wedging another chapter in between them. This is the kind of thing I can only spot when I'm working ahead, and once spotted, it is not at all a big deal because I'd be writing chapter+4 today, so I just write the one that goes between them instead and +3 becomes +4. Still right on schedule. I still end today having written through Wednesday of next week.
Again, my goal for the week is that by Friday I'll be at (what will be by then the) current chapter+5, which will mean no major writing required for the next two weeks, while I'll be away. Even if I only get half as much done as I'm expecting, though, I'll be covered through the end of next week, and then I'd only need to write two chapters between next week and the week after to be covered until I'm home.
In less awesome news: I really, really, really need to internalize the fact that Patreon's payout is going to come at a different and unpredictable point every month. Because it's now the big chunk of income I get near the start of the month, I've come to depend on it for my (kind of very essential) web hosting and phone bills, but during the months that it takes longer to process than usual I end up going overdue on those and risk getting cut off. As my book income continues to grow, I can start shifting the big bills to that, with an eye towards even getting more of a buffer in my account.
Right now I'm just feeling kind of exposed because I don't yet have money I expected to have and I have things I need to pay with it.
The State of the Me
Doing okay. Had a tired/slow to wake up morning, but I'm awake now. Minimal fog.
Plans For Today
This morning/early afternoon I'm going to be working on ebook stuff, including prepping the Omnibus V for release and possibly making my first foray into the KoBo store, in keeping with my goal of adding a book to another (non-Amazon) ebook store every week. Omnibus II is now on sale in the Nook store... I'd link to it, but there's a bit of an embarrassing situation. I initially uploaded the wrong cover (my brain defaulted to the IV cover file, since I'd been working with that so recently), and I thought I had fixed it, but apparently it didn't take. I just tried putting it through again and will see what happens.
Later in the day I'm going to be writing the chapter that goes between the upcoming chapters, as previously described, and at the end of the day I'm going to post today's chapter. Final score at the end of the day will be current chapter +3, covering me through Wednesday.
