Okay, so, in the space of a couple days I've gone from feeling like, "Wow, Nookpress is so easy! I wonder why I don't have all my books up there yet?" to "Oh... that's why." Their manuscript converter is flaky in multiple ways. Not only will it simply fail about half the time, but it is inconsistent about recognizing page breaks as chapter/section divisions. The fact that it's attached to a WYSIWYG editor means that I can fix it when it does that... but I'd rather not. I think next I'll try uploading an actual existing epub and seeing how it handles it.
But not today. I feel like I've lost enough time and brain cycles messing with it.
Today I'm going to focus on things I know I can do; specifically, wrapping up the next Omnibus and getting it up in my usual places.
I'm also playing around with the sharing on Google Docs... it occurred to me that now that I'm working ahead I can resume giving my patrons a different version of the behind-the-curtains view they got when I was spreading the process out over days by making the folder where I keep my upcoming chapter drafts viewable with a read-only link. Effectively, this would let patrons have a read-at-own-risk view of the next week or two of the chapter.
Because I've never done anything quite like this, it will take some experimenting before my brain can deem it safe.
The State of the Me
I managed to run my hand into a wall in the dark last night. Hand injuries always trip my worry-radar pretty hard because I kind of need these things for what I do. It was my left hand, which is good because I'm right-handed and my right hand does most of the work when I write on my phone. So far, though, my hand is just sort of generally sore... no mobility problems. I use the mouse more than the keyboard when I'm book formatting, so focusing on that will give me a chance to rest it more today.
Plans For Today
I'm going to be doing the above stuff throughout the day, and then around close of day I'll be writing another chapter, which will cover me through Friday of next week.
