Good writing day.
Aug. 3rd, 2011 02:19 pmToday, I wrote about 2,000 words of... something. I don't know what it is yet. I'd call it a story; those with stricter definitions might disagree. The title is "The Absolute Beginner's Guide To Living Forever"... that's a work in progress, but the final title will probably be similar.
It's a sort of monologue. The speaker is a person who became immortal through unspecified means at some point in the past, and the listener is someone who has learned a secret route to immortality and isn't sure whether or not to take it. It might become more of an epistle, or even a series thereof, with the querent's initial letter and replies left to the reader's imagination, along with the querent's eventual decision or the outcome.
I took a stab at writing this before. I think it came out of a dream, originally. The first stab wasn't very satisfactory because I kept trying to turn it into a "story"... you know: beginning, middle, end. Conflict, resolution. That kind of thing. What it's meant to be is a meditation on what it really means to live forever. Practical matters. Emotional and philosophical and ethical concerns.
