...is that the app I use doesn't have any kind of autosave. I didn't look for one, because... it's the Kindle. I never actually turn it off. It's never run out of battery power in all the time that I've had it, even though I'm not exactly hyper-vigilant about plugging it in.

And in all the time that I've had it, it's never crashed. It froze up on me once when I uncoupled it from a computer with insufficient ceremony, but it's never crashed when I'm using it.

Of course, I never used "active content" (apps) on it much before.

In the past day it crashed twice while I was writing. Anecdatally it seemed to be related to long periods of sustained writing at high speeds, as both times it happened was when i was "on a roll".

I'll be keeping an eye out for other notepad apps (the one I use is by a developer called 7 Dragons, I believe), but this might just be part of the Kindle's technical limitations... it's really not a computer.

I think the advantages of using it outweigh this as a drawback, especially since it took four days of writing on it every day for me to hit a stride where it became a problem. Saving is pretty simple and I can get in the habit of doing it semi-automatically. I was never going to attempt to write a novel, or even a whole multithousand word story on the thing... I just use it to help get things going when I'm stuck, and theoretically will use in the future when I'm hanging out somewhere and an idea strikes me. I think it's sufficient for those needs.
