THE DAILY REPORT

Another month, another dollar... okay, that might be something of an understatement. This month is going to be something like the opposite of last month, which started off in Omaha and ended in Hagerstown. So it's going to have something like the same challenges in terms of distractions and time use. We're also getting into the holidays now, too.

The fact that Jack is not employed at the moment adds an extra layer of challenge to all this. If I were home alone during the day, it'd be a lot easier to separate out my work time from the rest of the day. I can't simply ignore Jack... he needs my presence in his life right now, and I need his. But I can't ignore my work, so there has to be balance.

(I know this will likely provoke a chorus of "Work can wait, spend more time with Jack, we're patient!" But I've got bills to pay, and patience and goodwill may be appreciated, but they are not edible nor exchangeable for legal tender.)

STATE OF THE ME

Feeling pretty good. Last night was fun.

DREAMS FROM LAST NIGHT

A group of old timey black-and-white-era Disney characters were out in the desert having a shadow puppet contest while on the other side of the rock a bunch of (also animated, but in color) grizzled old prospectors were playing card games. It was a table with like five or six people playing poker, but instead of one game it was one person who was simultaneously going head-to-head with each of the other players, and he was irritated by the distraction posed by the shadows being made by the older cartoons.

He was far in the hole and was using IOUs and little bits of pizza that had been cut up into squares in place of chips, but amazingly he managed to come up with winning hands against each of his opponents and took all the pots.

One of the other players noticed me watching and said it was really sad, the gambler was all jubilant about winning and bragging about his incredible skills but they'd been playing poker with him for years and his occasional amazing victories like that only ever got back a tiny fraction of his losses.

PLANS FOR THE DAY

Got a chapter of Tales of MU to do. This should be a "finishing" day, but instead it's a "writing it" day. I do have a chapter in mind that I'm confident I'll be able to pull off.
