Dec. 30th, 2011 02:54 pmTHE DAILY REPORT
So, yesterday I got some less than stellar news about my living situation... nothing too dire, just that we're getting a new housemate. This is very good news from a financial point of view as it means my rent is going down, but it is going to make the house more crowded... less crowded than it's been this week, though. I'm not really thrilled about the fact that there's not going to be any respite here, but I suppose I've had a decent crash course in keeping to myself and getting things done while the house is occupied.
The bigger problem than the human who's moving in is the cat that's moving in with him. We had this cat here before and evicted him for failure to not pee on everything we owned. This isn't my house, and I have a sweet deal, and both the owner of the cat and the owner of the house are sure that the peeing was related to abandonment issues, but I've been thinking about ways of blocking my stairs to cat traffic. The problem is that I'm not sure it's possible. I put a barrier at the bottom to keep the houseguests' dog from getting up here while letting the cats come and go as they please. That wasn't hard to do, because coming and going as they please is what cats do best. It's just too open at both the top and bottom of the stairs, and there really isn't anywhere I could block it off in the middle that he wouldn't have something within reach he could jump to. I'm going to try blocking it off at the bottom anyway, under the theory that if it at least discourages him then he might not find a way around until we've had time to see if he's going to present the same problems or not.
I'm also rearranging my room to put the litter boxes (I have two litter boxes up here, and they were here when this cat was) right on the spots where he was most apt to pee.
Ugh. I hate that I'm spending my time figuring out how to keep a cat from peeing in my room. The homeowner says that if it happens again this time she'll "kill them both", but I'd take more comfort from something less hyperbolic like "the cat will have to leave."
THE STATE OF THE ME
I got this news at about 3 in the morning last night while I was already having trouble sleeping because the house is full of people who aren't on any kind of a sleep schedule. So... didn't sleep much.
PLANS FOR THE DAY
Well, I've got work to do on this month's KDR but I'm going ahead and calling that it won't be done until tomorrow. And the newsletter will come out on the second.
Happy new year.
