Jan. 23rd, 2012 02:42 pmTHE DAILY REPORT
So this is the first day of my "write for the sake of writing" campaign. I've already done a bit more than an hour of writing, having wrapped up the second chapter draft for By Half Measures. I've started italicizing the title of that because at 14,000 words and being about half done it's clearly made the leap from being a story to a book.
I thought about starting off the week with a non-writing work day, since that will probably fall on Monday more often than not, but I've got an Other Tales to wrap up today.
I've been talking about this shift in priorities as wearing the writer hat more, but it's also about more clearly delineating hats.
haikujaguar writes about herself as Artist, Business Manager, and Marketer, and this step for me is really about completely dividing Artist and Marketer. When I try to only write stuff that has an immediate commercial use, I just end up stressing out my internal artist and stifling my own creativity. Better to give the artist-self a longer leash and then figure out what to do with the output.
THE STATE OF THE ME
Went to sleep fairly early yesterday and slept in fairly late today, but woke up feeling very non-groggy. Good sign that I got rest I needed badly. My leg is doing better today. Stress is going down. My financial outlook has a tendency to improve by centimeters rather than inches, but even then it lessens the stress I'm under... which is also going down as I focus more on writing. All those times that I was really stressed and said I'd be happy to write more if I was able to write more... yeah, I'm happy right now.
DREAMS FROM LAST NIGHT
Really bizarre mash-up of The Flintstones (the original cartoons) and really old school Popeye/Thimble Theater stuff.
PLANS FOR TODAY
Write on. Got an OT to finish and post.
