THE DAILY REPORT

Back in Omaha after a week and a half with my parents in Florida. I think the whole vacation thing would have gone more smoothly if I'd stuck to my original plan, but after being ill and then unexpectedly busy in the weeks before it I got a little flail-y... the final score was about what I'd planned on, at least as far as MU chapters go, but I expended a lot more angst and energy getting there out of the feeling that I needed to make up for the weeks before.

I think I just need to get it through my head that there is no making up, that having a bad day or a bad week in the past doesn't add to my creative capacity or time in the future. Recover from bad days, get back on track... but don't Missing a target by a day or so doesn't mean I have to abandon it, but when I'm in a situation where I have to say, "Okay, X isn't happening", I don't add Y to the schedule later to balance it out.

With small exceptions like the Easter holiday, I'm going to be at home in Omaha for the next two months, so I should be able to get back into my routine fairly easily and stay there fairly well.

Another for future reference thing: I've been practicing doing things like writing when other people are in the room, when the TV's on, when I'm not at my best, etc., and I've been doing pretty good at it. But writing around my parents on the same level that I do otherwise is apparently in a whole other ballpark... it's nothing that they do. I think it's more a matter of inhibitions than anything else. For me, writer's block is almost always a matter of inhibitions.

Bearing that in mind, I think the next time I do one of these trips (they're pretty much annual) I'll just count on it being a total vacation.

STATE OF THE ME

Small case of the sniffles. Slept okay. We're having an unprecedented heatwave here, which meant I didn't quite come back to the ideal sleep conditions I'd expected, but it's still in the 50s at night for now.

PLANS FOR TODAY
