...was that I used a mobility scooter for the first time, during a couple of days that would otherwise have involved hours of walking around in humid eighty degree weather. It made such a difference, both in terms of how much I was able to enjoy the excursion and my physical state afterwards.
Usually "doing Disney" means about a week of recovery. This time... nothing. And I was still coming back from being sick when we went.
And you know, when I write this, I feel self-conscious and keep wanting to hedge myself by pointing out that I'm not about to start using a scooter all the time, and that makes me self-conscious because once you've said that you don't need something all of the time you open yourself up to "But why do you need it now?"... but the point I want to work around to here is the importance that people be allowed (and feel allowed) to use appropriate aids as much as they need them.
So rather than saying how much I will or won't use a scooter in the future, I'll say that I plan on taking advantage of the opportunity when I think it would be necessary or helpful.
