The Daily Report

So, I managed to mostly hit my cycle targets the first time out... I got +1200 words yesterday rather than +1500, which was still more than the minimum. And left me with more than 2500 words of prose.

But in a classic case of "quantity isn't quality", the chapter isn't there. The words are, the story isn't. It's going to need major polish to be good.

And in any other circumstances, that would be just fine. It would be awesome. Because that's the point of having the whole body of the chapter threshed out before day 4 (today).

But we're kind of right in the midst of the "mid-Atlantic heat wave/storm system" thing... we didn't lose power, fortunately, but it is very hot here, which is not the ideal conditions for brain work.

And it's also my last day here for several months, which adds both practical and personal reasons this can't be a "shut myself up in the office" day.

The good news about this delay is that it's going to help me avoid another one... the next update would have fallen square on the 4th of July, which I have rather involved family plans for so I was planning on declaring it a holiday. But I can't see any reason why I can't do a post on the 2nd and then have another one 4 days after that... the 3rd and 4th, my busy days, will be the light lifting days.

It's something that happened purely by accident, but holding chapters off for two days instead of skipping them and going a whole four days or scrambling to make it up within one day seems like a really good solution when circumstances pile up. Once I'm settled back in Omaha I'm going to be challenging myself to get as many days in a row without needing a delay as possible, but it's nice to have a consistently useful solution in place.

State of the Me

Hot but not bothered.
