The Daily Report

So, the Google Drive stuff is not without its little glitches and hitches... trying to make a new document while in offline mode gives an error that the document is not available offline, which I don't think is intentional since they don't disable access to the new document button in any way but they do restrict the type of document to the ones that are available for offline editing.

The Google Drive program that maintains a sync folder on the computer is really awesome, but... if it needs to be reinstalled or you need to sign out of your account for any reason, you have to empty the local copy of the folder (or create a new one) when you sign back in. Even if you're signing into the same account. And signing out and back in seems to be a major way to solve problems with the program. I've also encountered a situation where files I know I only had open for editing on one computer ended up with conflicting duplicates in the drive folder, and that after deleting the copies (I could tell they were copies because it put numbers in the file names of them) I opened it up later and the original was gone, too. I was able to recover it from a copy in my recycling bin.

Even with these hiccups... yeah, overall, this is still a good thing. A very good thing. I started using Google Docs after some very frustrating experiences with losing work either to programs with no auto-save or to computer failure (or simply not having the right computer available), and over time I've found that Google's in-browser word processor strikes the perfect balance for me between minimalist programs like Notepad or Write Or Die and a full office-style word processor... and I've just grown really accustomed to it.

But losing the ability to get off the internet and write... I've been using Google for a few years now, and I guess it's been long enough for me to not remember how things were before. It's such a clear psychological signal to be able to close all the other tabs and turn off the internet: time to write. Time to descend into the word mines. Time to make the doughnuts. Time to go to work.

Both of the past two days, I have in fact overdone it and ended the day feeling drained and headachy from writing too much in a row without a break.

The State of the Me

It's eight o'clock in the morning and I'm awake and typing, which is both weird and good.

Plans For Today

I'm going to be posting an Other Tales this morning. Yeah, really. Then I've got 1,000 words to write of Tales of MU in the afternoon. The rest of my time I'm going to be working on my monthly goals.
