The Daily Report
Today I'm testing out a couple of new things. One is my virtual office. I say "virtual" but I mean "imaginary". It's my attempt to harness my natural tendency to fall back into fantasy and reverie, a tendency that only increases the more stressed or overwhelmed I'm feeling. My office is nice, but it comes with a supervisor who wants to see results and signs that I'm working, and an assistant who will remind me of things that need doing and take care of the really tedious things. (Which means there's an element of roleplay at work here, but I'm good at roleplay.)
The State of the Me
Temperature's been going up and down, and we're far enough from the days of 100 degree weather that the high 80s can hit me like a sledgehammer. Last night it dipped down into the fifties, though, which means I slept really well.
I learned a couple things about valerian and melatonin this week which makes me wonder if some of the positive effects I've been attributing to melatonin might not actually be from valerian. I've always considered melatonin to be the "active ingredient" in my sleep regimen, and it does have more effect there, but apparently it actually can inhibit serotonin production. Valerian, on the other hand, has shown some use in treating the symptoms of anxiety and depression. I've never taken valerian by itself, and have always considered replacing the melatonin a higher priority when I'm running out and money is tight. I think I might try a week or two with just valerian and see what it does.
Plans For Today
I have a chapter of Tales of MU that needs finishing. Other than that, my main task today is to read through my works in progress and figure out where I am in them.
