The Daily Report

Today's gotten off to a bit of a shaky start, as I temporarily misplaced the case with my daily pills in it. I've found it now, and now that the steadily mounting quiet panic has subsided I've realized that I still have all the individual bottles with pills in them so I could have just taken them and left today's square full for this time next week. Anyway, it's sorted now.

This Thursday marks exactly four weeks until WisCon, which is the kind of thing that's useful to know for purposes of planning/creating a sense of urgency around a deadline. Yesterday's attempt at writing two chapters' of commentary turned into one long one, which is also good... knowing that I have 30 days to finish fewer than 20 chapters' worth of commentary means that I don't have to arbitrarily cut myself off when I'm on a roll on one chapter. The commentary is the value-add of the book for established readers, so I'd rather give more than less.

I'm setting myself a daily minimum of one chapter. That way I'll finish with more than a week to spare for things like adding links and tweaking formatting, tasks I'm now able to complete in a very short span of time.

I'm finding that the farther out I get with the writing MU in advance thing, not only do the results get sketchier, but I end up using less of what I've written in advance. It works as a rough guide more than even an actual draft, or at least what a "draft" normally is for me. Which isn't to say that it's useless, just that my backlog is not actually increasing at a rate of one chapter a week as the raw math would suggest.

But this is okay. All I need in order to not miss any updates with my travel is to have the Thursday and Tuesday around Memorial Day solidly covered by the Wednesday before, and that's within the range that I've been working.

(My first year at WisCon, I got there well ahead of the only people I'd met elsewhere, and so I sat in the lobby by myself and wrote and posted a chapter. This year, not only do I know a lot more people, but Jack and Sarah are getting there a few hours ahead of me.)

The State of the Me

Doing fine.

Plans For Today

Two days in a row with updates to The One Called Wander might be nice. I also have at least one chapter of commentary to do (probably just the one, because of the late start) and polish up a chapter for posting.
