The Daily Report

Well, here I am at the start of another week. Last week started kind of weird/slow, with some clear goals but some obstacles and stress as well. There was a definite turning point Wednesday afternoon. This week is going to be starting better.

As of right now, I've got $31/month pledged on Patreon... so, basically, a dollar a day. Not a bad start. Not much, but not a bad start. I want to mess around with it a little bit more before I really throw open the floodgates.

One thing I'm thinking about doing is redefining the sponsor period from "month" to "four weekly updates". It's a small difference, but an important one. One of the things that have people have mentioned about being leery about the PayPal subscription is that there's no accountability built into it... the money comes out automatically each month, whether I have an off month or not. Obviously there are some advantages there for me, but good business practices are ones where everybody has the same goal.

Patreon would make it easy for me to set it up so I only get paid when I write (by making the pledge be per chapter/story), but the downside there is that if I'm updating 4 or 5 times a month then the minimum pledge is basically $4-5 a month, and that would price some people out.

But making it "every 4 weekly updates" means that every fourth chapter I post will be flagged as paid content, triggering the pledges. If I'm posting more than one thing in a week (i.e., bonus stories, which are paid for through other means), that's still only one weekly update so the pledges won't trigger more than once every 4 weeks. If I take a week off--as I'm planning to do for Christmas, or for family visits in the future--then the count doesn't advance that week.

Making it by n updates instead of by month will make things *slightly* more complicated, obviously, but the end result will be close to the same and it more closely aligns my motivations with readers' interests.

I'm still not 100% sure which way to go with this and I'm open to feedback, but I'm strongly leaning towards 4 chapters.

Progress on perk fulfillment! Not only am I now working on the writing-related ones, but yesterday we were finally able to get a picture for our holiday cards and we'll be picking them up tonight or tomorrow. We've been trying to pull this off for three weeks... the weather has been pretty consistent about waiting until around the weekends to be dangerous/terrible.

The State of the Me

I was up a little late last night, but still got close to eight hours of down time. I'm feeling pretty decent this morning. I have a full re-supply of my supplements arriving tomorrow.

Plans For Today

Today is day 2 of the MU writing cycle, which means I'm going to be starting the actual writing of the next chapter. I have a couple of different ways it can go, and I think I'm going to be actually trying to write two different chapters and seeing which one I like better.

I'm also going to be starting a bonus story today, with the expectation that it will go up on Friday.

I'm going to start out with transcription, since that puts me in a work mindset quicker than anything.
