The Daily Report

Okay. This week I have two chapters due (Tuesday and Thursday), and I'm going to be using this week to try to get ahead and break the association between the publishing schedule and the writing schedule.

What I'm going to be doing, specifically, is giving Monday over to plotting out three or four chapters, in some cases even writing a fragment or seed to get me going), and then each of the rest of the days, writing one of them. When I have a sufficient starting point and goal in mind, I can write a 2500-3500 word chapter in an afternoon, sometimes in as little as 2 hours and rarely more than 3.

I don't expect to actually finish 4 chapters every week... I do expect to do so this week, though, which gets me two ahead right out of the gate. If I'm even one ahead going into next week, then I'll be in a position to do this again next week, since I won't have to write a new chapter to post on Monday.

My longer term goal is to be more than a week ahead, at which point I'll be able to resume doing the Other Tales side stories as actual bonus stories, since I'll be able to write them without interrupting the publishing schedule.

Another of the advantages of this approach is that I've never really dealt with more than one chapter ahead... I might have plans for where the current storyline is going, I might have overall goals for what to do with characters, but in terms of really concrete stuff, my eye has always been on the next installment.

The State of the Me

I think I had too much caffeine too late in the day yesterday, as last night was pretty restless. I think I'm fit enough for the task I've set for myself today, though.

Plans For Today

I'm going to start by brainstorming ideas. In the last few hours of the work day, the time that I would have spent writing the chapter if this were a chapter day, I plan on sitting down and writing out what's basically an outline of the next four chapters, although it's likely to be a bit more idiosyncratic than any outline taught in school. Again, my overall goal is to have the premise and ending point of four chapters.
