Mar. 16th, 2015 11:20 amPersonal Reflection
The weather is supposed to get up to 67 today. We had a lot of 50s and 60s last week, but there was so much snow on the ground to begin with that it just turned the yard into soup. I'm looking forward to being able to walk around outside of the house again. I think part of the reason I've been hit so hard this winter is that I'd gotten used to getting fresh air and sunshine and moving around most afternoons, and then that was no longer as feasible an option.
I also feel like just acknowledging that I've been depressed as I did at the end of last week helps a bit.
Another piece of potential good news...
Some time ago I sent in a poetry submission that I considered to be a long shot, not due to the poem, which I am nothing but proud of, but because of the prestige of the venue. Last Monday I hit the "average response time" benchmark for it, so now I'm one week past.
I can already hear people lining up to remind me that "average response time" is an average and there are all sorts of reasons why it might be taking longer and I shouldn't worry. Let me cut you off right there: this isn't worry. This is pride. See, at this point, the balance of probability is that at least one set of eyeballs has passed over my poem at least once without being deemed entirely unusitable for their publication.
An immediate "YES, WE WANT THIS" is nice, but every time a submission of mine exceeds the average response time I feel like I've passed a hurdle.
The Daily Report
This week I'm working on pinning down the contents of Angels of the Meanwhile. There have been a few late submissions and people who've wanted to get in but haven't sent their work yet... while all such generosity is appreciated, we really need to lock it down and get it put to bed. If you've been in touch with either myself or Elizabeth about sending something in, please get it to me by Friday. Use the subject line "FOR POPELIZBET" to make sure your message ends up getting filtered right. We had a couple of people miss the FOR or omit the space, and some of them wound up in the spam folder, which is always a risk when sending attachments.
The State of the Me
Doing okay. It was a busy weekend and a weird one for sleep, but I woke up at 7 this morning feel pretty good.
Plans For Today
This morning I've been getting acquainted with Adobe InDesign, a program I need to use for WisCon business and that I might use to improve my PDF e-book presentation.
I'm going to be doing some random writing after lunch, followed by some plotting/seeding for the week in Tales of MU.
